Parent School Support Committee (PSSC)

What is a PSSC?

A Parent School Support Committee is a committee of 6-12 elected parent and community members who work in an advisory capacity with the principal and staff. The purpose of the PSSC is for all members to work with the principal to enhance student learning and development, and to enrich the educational experience of all children by increasing family and community involvement. The committee will provide the means to facilitate cooperation among, and to articulate the needs and aspirations of, the school community. This collaboration will be instrumental in achieving the school’s primary goal - ensuring the best possible learning opportunities for students.

Where does my PSSC fit into the Education System?

Your PSSC will focus on the improvement of your school. It is a vital communication link between your school and your community. The District Education Council (DEC) ensures that schools in your district operate effectively and efficiently, and reflect the desires/needs of the community. The Department of Education will set out provincial standards and expectations for achievement.
