Student Helpers

Recycling - Grades 3-8

Elementary

The recycling team is made up of 3-8 students who collect paper as well as bottles from each class. The money collected from the bottles is spent by grade levels in middle school, at the discretion of the teachers and in elementary the money is donated to different or\ganizations.

Middle School

Each classroom has a container for collecting and a group of students empty the containers twice a week now. This fall we started with the redemption centre picking up the recycling from the school instead of me delivering it. The money received from the bottles goes to the grade level teams to be used at their discretion for the students.

Peer Helpers - Middle School

Peer Helpers at Forest Hills schools is a group of thirteen students who provide a variety of services around the school. These students help both their peers and the younger students in the school to handle a variety of social problems. Quite often, they fill the role of a good listener or help direct the student to where they may get further assistance. Peer Helpers also take a leadership role in helping with special projects around the school such as the "Christmas Raffle" or assisting on Parent-Teacher days. Group meetings are held approximately once a week where problems are discussed and where further training in listening skills and mediation is received by the members.

Elementary Student Leadership - Grades 3-5

The Leadership Club experience here at Forest Hills School gives students at the grade three to five levels the opportunity to take on leadership roles within our school community. These students represent their classes and their school in a variety of ways.

  • Peer helpers in our primary school classes.
  • Community helpers work on community based projects such as Food Drives and Bake Sales.
  • Lead roles in school based projects such as our annual “Christmas Flea Market” which raises funds to help families in our school at Christmas.
  • Give assistance to our school office by helping to count out and distribute notices/flyers.
  • Grow socially together sharing common interest and having fun.
  • Kids helping Kids.
  • Learning leadership skills which will go with them into adulthood.
